ABOUT ABOUT

Improvisational comedy meets a comedy of errors in this Commedia dell'Arte classic that no one in 2014 has ever heard of. Lovers quarrel. Hotheads fight. A live band booms. 1753 isn't a year most people feel is steeped in comedy, but you won't leave the theatre without your mind being blown.

One of the few high schools offering its own improvisational club, there aren't many kids that can pull this show off. Improv started in the 1500s in Italy, with traveling theatre troupes performing Commedia dell'Arte. Stock characters wearing half-masks would move across Europe with standard scenarios and plays that would be acted out. At different points in the play, seasoned actors would insert comedy bits to wow the audience, only to move on to the scripted piece moments later.
